My First Blog

Welcome to Dward34.com the Official website of Derrick Ward’s, and the home to Derrick’s blog. First thanks for checking out my new website. This site will be your avenue to find out everything you need to know about me, Derrick Ward. As you know, I am one of three running backs for the New York Giants. We have been dubbed “Earth, Wind, and Fire.”

There has been some early controversy over whether I am Wind or Fire spurred on by an article involving Justin Tuck. For those of you who don’t know, or who missed the Sunday morning pre-game show I dubbed myself as Wind. I want to know which label you think I am and why. You can comment on my blog to let me know what you think.

I will be posting a weekly blog for my fans. In my blog I will be answering questions from my fans, and other interviewers. Make sure to post your questions and comments. I will try to get to as many as possible! Thanks again for visiting my website. I look forward to reading your questions and comments.

Big fan of yours Derrick and you are a vital part of our potent and league-leading rushing offense! As a fan that periodically plays coach on Sundays; I would really love to see you and Jacobs (or even you and Bradshaw) in the backfield at the same time on occasion. Not sure why that is such a no-no in the organization, but I don’t remember the last time the Giants came out in a two-back set. I think that could be a refreshing way of keeping opposing defenses guessing.

As for the Earth, Wind and Fire nicknames; Jacobs is certainly deserving of “Earth”, I believe Bradshaw is aptly named “Fire”, and you are correctly dubbed “Wind”. My reasoning for each;

Earth (Jacobs) - Well this really needs no explanation.

Fire (Bradshaw) – There is no question that kid provides a spark. He’ll get 5-6 carries a game and at least one of them is highlight-reel worthy.

Wind (Ward) – Whether you know it or not (I’m sure you do), you are quite an elusive back. I don’t think I’ve ever seen you go down upon first contact. You are usually seen carrying a few defenders that extra yard or two. You’re also quite nimble on your feet and make some pretty nice cuts when needed.

Thus far, this season has been an absolute joy to watch! And I for one, as the epitome of a Giants Fan, am very proud of all you in blue! I do not remember the last time we had such a physically and mentally strong team that embodies the character of their coach like this team. I firmly believe, that the only team that can beat you, is yourselves.

Hey Derrick, I'm a huge Giants fan and I've really liked your game ever since you exploded onto the scene and saved our running game last season with Jacobs out.

Personally, though, I like the thought of you as fire and Ahmad as wind. The fire does a lot of damage, and then the wind comes in at the end, fans the flames to really beat down the opponent. Not to leave Brandon out, the earth is always there as the foundation for the entire scene.

Like yesterday Brandon steamrolled Ray Lewis and the Ravens, setting the foundation. Next you put em on fire and in panic mode with your shiftier mentality. Then just as their hoping to mount a final comeback the wind comes along and fans the flames.

That's just my take, why do you label yourself fire?

D W whatever you wanna call yourselves i just call it flat out good haha, it seems like not only you three backs but everyone on the team know they have a job to do and do it real well. This team is one of the strongest groups menttally ive seen and thats hard to come by in the nfl these days. Keep doin what your doin cause you and everyone are on the same page this year. G MEN!!!!!!!!

Hey Derrick i'm a huge giant fan. I would also agree that your the wind. Although your explosive when you have the ball and can also be dubbed fire i think the quickness you bring after Jacobs carrying the ball solitifies you as wind. And Ahmad sort of ignites the team late in the game like a fire

Wuzzam Derrick. You better tell Jerry to get that contract done. We want you a Giant for a long time. You do it all brah, a great all around back. Keep it real and keep running like a caddie.

I'd say you're Wind, not only because of the similarity to your last name, but because you make some good cuts in the second level. Bradshaw is definitely fire, though, mostly because he gets hot in a hurry.

Congrats on all your success, last year, this year, and hopefully next year.

G MEN BABY!! I have to agree with all the comments about the physicality of this team. The win yesterday was amazing the way *dare I say it* Earth, Wind, and Fire ran...just amazing....I didn't get to see most out of it because I am out of Missouri but I always jump on to watch highlights and wow...GO BIG BLUE!

Hey Derrick just wanted to say thanks for all your hard work... I live in Fresno and have followed you ever since you ran with my beloved Fresno State Bulldogs. I was so pumped when we picked up David Carr... we always like to see our home town guy's play for BIG BLUE. Me and my crew are headed to the Giants vs. Arizona game this weekend and all that we ask is that you do your thing and run all over them!!! I think this is probably the best running game I have seen since O. Anderson and R. Hampton... what they do with the rotation makes alot of sense to me, the only thing I would like to see would be for them to mix it up... maybe put you in first or Bradshaw then put Jacobs in to wear them out in the 4th quarter but heck what do I know it's working and we are 8-1. GO G-MEN TIME TO SHOW THE WORLD IT WASN'T A FLUKE!!!!! Hey D maybe we can hook up before the game so we can get a picture with you so I can put it on my wall with the rest of my Fresno State/Ny Giants pictures.

Hey D-Ward.

No question from me, sorry. I just wanted to say that my father, lifetime Giants fan, is getting up there in the years, and between last year and this year so far, you have given him a lot of joy and given me the opportunity to share it with him.

Keep the effort, up, guys. You are doing great and it is a joy to watch.
